Mind body health for the deeply fabulous

Friday Love List no. 5

You! Yes, you! I am feeling extra glitzy on this fine-ass FRIDAY for all sorts of reasons. First, I can consistently breathe through my right nostril now; and that right there makes me want to vote myself queen of my own olfactory prom!

nostril prom (2)

Idk, guys… I blame the meds.

But I think it’s more than the perpetual stream of fresh oxygen that I’m blessed with: I can just feel the excitement in the air. It’s fizzy and electric and caffeinated and… more than weird sparkly springtime behind my face, it’s soon to be weird sparkly springtime all around me!

You guys see him too, right?

To quote my homegirl Penny Lane, “It’s all happening.” Call it my spidey sense or my feminine intuition or what have you, but I can practically hear the universe shifting in my favor. And to celebrate? A love list!

1. My other homegirl, Tori Dotgovdotcom is back this week! I’ve been shielding her from all. of. my. germs until now, but I get to hang with her and some magnificent others this evening. One such magnificent other works for a BOMB startup called Mentor Mob. They’re taking fab strides to shake up our definition of education and you should absolutely read about them and support them 1000%.

My friends are so fly.

2. This frisky fundraiser. I may or may not be involved… you should buy tickets and check it out either way!

3. So half of my family members were born this week in history, and I get to celebrate with them again this weekend! While you’re all drinking green beer and making out with French Polynesians wearing “Kiss me! I’m Irish!” buttons, I will be at a 4 year old’s birthday party. And she is the cutest! Yes she is! If only you all could see the Christmas card collage on my refrigerator door…

4. The “Music from Girls (HBO) Soundtrack” by Yann Kerjan on Spotify… follow that playlist! Although Girls has been leaving me with a seriously icky feeling lately (did anyone see the last episode? More accurately, could anyone watch the last episode?! The Q-tips? The Kanye performance? ADAM?!?!), the music’s fab and just varied enough for ideal desk listening. Do it.

5. One Part Plant. Sweet friends, I’ve nearly exhausted my lunch break or I would wax on for hours about how cool this is, but Jessica Murnane has succeeded in convincing the chefs at some of Chicago’s most beloved (and meatiest!) restaurants to get some vibrant veg entrees on their menus! I love vegan restaurants, but I appreciate restaurants that cater to everyone’s preferences even more.

Yikes! Lunch break OVER. More from me tomorrow :)

XOXO,
Rose

Hey you! Rosieglowwellness.com is largely devoted to musings on what balance means to an urbane, artsy-fartsy twenty-something. It’s tough out here for us post-grad women: if you’re not homeless, you’re doing something right. But do you, too, worry that you spend too much time furrowing your brows over your future when you should be unwrapping and relishing your present? Do you, like me, sometimes feel like everyone expects you to be the type of person who spends the majority of her entry-level “arts” paycheck on fifteen dollar old-timey cocktails, four a.m. cab rides home and everything sequined on the Urban Outfitters sale rack when, perhaps, you are really the type of person who would rather drink cucumber mint kale juice while wearing yoga pants and Googling reiki techniques? Is it possible that such a person is one and the same, and she is fabulous in her own, very confused right? Sister girl, I hear you. I know you. I accept you. I also know in my happy gut, full heart and coffee-addled brain that you and I are gorgeous glow worms, just as we are! We are sparkle ponies of light and love and we are still in the process of teasing out our true, authentic selves with all of this… living. So if you don’t have it figured out, if you acknowledge that you never will and that is tremendously exciting, if you want to connect with other smart chicks and tap into that charming inner-self of yours, then come back real soon, ya hear? We’re family now!

  1. Hey! Are you part of Vaudezilla?? I’m a burly girl myself :)

    • Oh la la, Ms. Dolly! I have MAD respect for your art form, but I’m more of a “friend of Vaudezilla.” I’m a classically trained opera singer and I seek out avant garde productions to take part in. I performed with Lingerie Lyrique last year and was directed/choreographed by the one and only Ms. Red Hot Annie! I definitely wouldn’t consider myself a burlesque dancer through and through, but I’m a singer and performance artist and Annie taught us how to fake it! :)

I’m performing a short scene from our Lingerie Lyrique show tonight with Vaudezilla. I’ll give the girls your regards!

      • How fab!! I’ve had the pleasure of performing with Red Hot Annie in Pittsburgh recently, and she is a treat! If I’m ever up by you i’ll be sure to holla, and let me know if you come around the Baltimore/DC area :)

  2. “Sight of the Sun” by fun. In the closing credits of the ‘Girls’ season finale. Was listening to it as I read this, and got way excited when you mentioned the soundtrack at the end of the post. So good, definitely recommend listening to it (on repeat, ahem).

    Love the blog.

    • I LOVE that song! I’ve been judging Fun pretty harshly because the first band that the lead singer (Nate Ruess) was in, has been one of my all time favorites since high school. Butttttt… they’re pretty fab. I’m going to listen now!

      Hope you’re well, lady!
